WELCOME TO GRADE 5C
August 31, 2010
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to room 105, Mrs. Thompson’s grade 5 class. I am the homeroom teacher although you will have others as well. You will have Mrs. Sargunaraj for French, Mrs. Laboucan for Cree, Mrs. Deas for Music Mr. Fines for boys health and Ms. Reid for girls health.
Communication between the school, teacher, parent and student is very important to me. I expect your child to be responsible for his/her agenda (or scribbler), to be completed at school, taken home, get it signed and return it DAILY. If you need to contact me you can call the school, write a note in the agenda or email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Homework MUST be completed and turned in on TIME. If your child is missing homework assignments a notice will be sent home in the agenda. If your child does not return the assignment the second time a detention will be given.
Lunches. Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds for lunch unless they have written permission. We do have microwaves in the classroom that can be used at lunchtime. Remember that we do have only 20 minutes to eat.
Students will be put on a rotation for classroom jobs. This is to help me operate the classroom in an organized manner.
Cell phones are not allowed in the classroom, even mine, they are a distraction to us all. Students are not allowed to use the classroom phones, unless it is an emergency. The phones are for school use only.
Locks are highly recommended, the school sells combinations locks or you may purchase your own. I will keep a record of combinations in case it is forgotten. Key locks are not recommended, as keys are often lots on the playground.
I love to have parent volunteers for listening to students reading out loud and for reading comprehension . We will be doing our reading every day in the morning. Please let me know if you are available to help.
I look forward to meeting all of the parents at the meet the teacher night!
Yours in teaching, Mrs. Elaine Thompson
