 School Theme for 2010-2011

Our school theme this year is Fill Your “I CARE” Bucket!

September Learning Focus

In language arts the main focus will be letters, sounds (phonemic awareness) and printing.  We will work with these letter sounds doing different activities by identifying sounds you hear in words, making words and rhyming (word family).

The focus in math will be on sorting and patterning.   The children will work on choosing a sorting rule and creating, reproducing and extending different patterns.

In science we will be exploring colour.  We will be identifying and evaluating methods for creating colour and applying colour to different materials.

We will start social studies in October.

In health the focus is on playground safety and building a school community.

Agendas

All of your child’s work, homework and notes from school will come home in the agenda.  Please check it daily!!   Please return the agenda everyday and use it to relay notes back to school (in the plastic pouch).   Using this folder will help limit things getting lost.  Agendas can be purchased at the office for $9.00.  Please make sure to write your child’s name on their agenda.  Thank you.

Word Wall Words

To be successful readers and writers it is important for your child to become very familiar with high-frequency words.  There will be five word wall words each week, as well as three challenge words.  Please look for these words in your child’s agenda.  We will practice these words daily at school and every Friday there will be a quiz on the words.  Your child would benefit from daily review at home.  We will be starting next week (September 7th).

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent/ Teacher Interviews will be later this month.  Wednesday Sept. 15th, 5-6:30pm and Thursday Sept. 16th 3:45-5:15pm (More information to follow).
