FACILITIES DEPARTMENT The Facilities Department is responsible for all school division buildings and grounds. Work is accomplished by the two electricians, two plumbers, three carpenters, a groundskeeper, and a number of apprentices and labourers. The department completes about 2,400 work orders annually. As much work is done in house as possible. In addition to maintenance requests the department completes many minor capital improvements and has a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. Over the years a great many energy saving initiatives have been put in place. Electrical utilization is among the lowest in the province. All school buildings are monitored and controlled via a digital control system that allows remote interface from any network outlet in the division. The department is also responsible for capital planning and implementation. Major capital projects occurred at all schools in Slave Lake from 2002 to 2004. In 2007 Lakeside Outreach School was relocated and completely upgraded. In 2008 a small addition and major modernization of Kinuso School is in progress. The project budget is 10.7 million dollars. The project will be phased over about 2 years. The Facilities Department audits all facilities on an ongoing basis and maintains a 3 year capital plan and a longer term facilities plan. Capital submissions are typically sent in annually in June. Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal funding of about $600,000 annually is allocated across the division on a priority basis. Drawings of all schools have been digitized and are updated on a continual basis by a contract AutoCAD operator.
